Brussels Sprouts in Garlic Butter

This was my introduction to how yummy Brussels Sprouts can be.  Prepared for me by a date, from a recipe he got from his ex-wife, that she got from Oprah, that Oprah got from Wolfgang Puck or someone.  So, of course, I had to bring it to retreat!

15 Brussels sprouts (halved lengthwise), stem removed
1.5 T butter
1.5 T olive oil
3 cloves garlic, smashed (easier choice:  garlic powder)
Grated parmesan cheese (optional)
Salt, pepper, cayenne

Melt butter and olive oil in a cast iron skillet over medium heat until butter is foamy.  Reduce heat to medium and add garlic until lightly browned then remove garlic.  Add spices. Alternately, use garlic powder and add to skillet now with the spices.  Add sprouts, cut side down, cover, and cook without stirring on medium-low heat for 10-15 minutes.  They will be tender and slightly caramelized.  Top with parmesan (note:  I have never added the parmesan & still find it amazing)
